The data had to correspond to the relevant guidelines as in “recommendations for maintenance management of inner city streets” and be input into the traffic management system. The determining factors in selecting a methodology were time required, and measurement accuracy at the highest level. The requirements placed on a modern city administration make a systematic and uniform survey of the street and road network essential, in order to generate a digital twin of the network. The Berlin Senate administers the city’s traffic network.
The data will also be used as the basis for traffic routing and control, pedestrian navigation systems and metropolitan and heavy transport management.
